Price indices and prices in the food sector – Annual and monthly statistics – 2018:11

Agricultural input price index

Agricultural input price index increased by 10.8 % between November 2017 and November 2018. Prices for Goods and services currently consumed in agriculture increased by 12.5 %. Prices for Goods contributing to agricultural investments increased by 5.1 %. Animal feedingstuffs (+24.8 %) had the largest price increase in the Input price index. Plant protection products and pesticides (-1.2 %) was the only product group where prices decreased during the period. According to yearly figures for 2017, Input price index increased by 2.6 % compared with 2016.

Agricultural output price index

Agricultural output price index increased by 13.9 % between November 2017 and November 2018.

Index for Crop output increased by 35.9 %. The highest increase was found in prices for Cereals (+52.9 %) followed by Forage plants (+49.3 %), Potatoes (+38.6 %), Vegetables (+36.2 %), Horticultural products (+4.9 %) and Industrial crops (+1.8 %). The only product group where prices decreased was Fruits and berries (-23.5 %).

Index for Animal output decreased by 2.5 %. The product group Animals decreased by 2.5 % between November 2017 and November 2018. The product group Milk, eggs and other animal products also decreased by 2.5 % during the same period. According to yearly figures for 2017, Output price index increased by 7.4 % compared with 2016.

Indices later in the food chain

Price index for the food industry, food from price regulated agricultural products increased by 3.5 % between November 2017 and November 2018. Crop products increased by 7.0 % and Animal products increased by 2.0 %. According to yearly figures for 2017, Price index for the food industry, food from price regulated agricultural products, increased by 3.7 % compared with 2016.

Consumer Price Index, food from price regulated agricultural products increased by 2.3 % between November 2017 and November 2018. Crop products increased by 3.2 % and Animal products increased by 2.0 %.

Total Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 2.0 % between November 2017 and November 2018.

According to yearly figures for 2017, Consumer Price Index, food from price regulated agricultural products, increased by 2.0 % compared with 2016.

Consumer Price Index, food from price regulated agricultural products, increased by 2.5 % between 2015 and 2017. Total Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 2.8 % during the same period.

 

Agricultural input price index for the EU market

Agricultural input price index during the third quarter of 2018 compared with the third quarter of 2017, increased, the most in Sweden (+10.1 %) followed by Latvia (+8.3 %) and Romania (+6.9 %). The only country where index decreased was Lithuania (-6.5 %). Agricultural input price index for EU-28 as a whole, cannot yet be presented due to the fact that certain countries still have not completed their work with the switch from base year 2010=100 to base year 2015=100.

Agricultural output price index for the EU market

Agricultural output price index during the third quarter of 2018 compared with the third quarter of 2017, increased, the most in Sweden (+23.2 %) followed by Belgium (+18.2 %) and Romania (+8.7 %). The country where index decreased the most was Ireland (-4.4 %). Agricultural output price index for EU-28 as a whole, cannot yet be presented due to the fact that certain countries still have not completed their work with the switch from base year 2010=100 to base year 2015=100.
