Results for 2006–2009 provided in this report are not directly comparable with results from previous years due to an increased number of small holdings as a result of the change in agricultural policy in the EU.

The average household income before tax-free positive transfers and taxes was for all agricultural households SEK 390 100 in 2009, a decrease by SEK 8 000 since 2008. The tax-free positive transfers increased by SEK 200 or 2 %. The negative transfers decreased by SEK 9 200 or 8 %. The household income after transfers increased by SEK 1 500 to SEK 295 800.

For farmers and spouses the income from business and employment has been calculated for women and men since 1996. For women, income from business decreased by SEK 900 in 2009 and income from employment increased by SEK 7 400 so that total income from employment and business increased by SEK 6 500 to SEK 201 800. For men, the corresponding changes were an decrease by SEK 2 500 and an increase by SEK 6 500 so that total income from employment and business increased by SEK 4 000 to SEK 238 500.

For farmers and spouses the income from business for women as share of income for men was 30 % in 2009. This share was 39 % in 1996. On the other hand, the corresponding share for income from employment was 95 % in 1996 and increased to 102 % in 2009. Although women on average earn more money from employment than men since 1999, their total income from business and employment was still 15 % lower in 2009. In 1996 the corresponding figure was 18 %.
