Background

The Farm Economics Survey (JEU) is an annual book-keeping survey. The aim of the survey is to illustrate the development of receipts and costs in agriculture. As a member state of the EU, Sweden is obliged to deliver data to the Farm Accountancy Data Network (FADN). A database containing data on 1 025 farms is delivered annually to DG Agriculture and Rural Development at the EU Commission.

The base of the calculations is nominal result in agriculture. The current cost for an asset is the replacement value reduced by depreciation.

In data management Statistics Sweden (SCB) cooperates with LRF Konsult and their local agents all over the country. The data are edited both at the national level and at DG Agriculture and Rural Development.

Results

The results given in the tables are based on Swedish typology as well as EU typology and show receipts and costs in agriculture for the year 2016.

The net margin for smaller crop farms (800–1 599 standard man-hours) in major region 1 is estimated at about 60 000 SEK. The net margin for midsize crop farms (1 600–3 199 standard man-hours) in major region 1 is estimated at 270 000 SEK. Larger crop farms (3 200–5 599 standard man-hours) have an estimated net margin at about 80 000 SEK. For dairy farmers, the net margin increased in the group with 5 600 standard man-hours and more and is estimated at about 1 090 000 SEK. For smaller cattle farms (800–3199 standard man-hours) the net margin is estimated at 230 000 SEK. Bigger cattle farms (3 200–5 599 standard man-hours) have an estimated net margin at about 620 000 SEK. Pig farms with 5 600 standard man-hours and more have a net margin estimated at about 1 600 000 SEK. Pig farms, classified within 1 600–5 599 standard man-hours, have an estimated net margin at about 490 000 SEK.
