In the year
2013, more than 24 500 holdings conducted some form of other gainful activity.
This represents 37 % of all holdings in the farm register, an increase from 34
% in 2010. Contractual work is the
most common other gainful activity
The most
common form of other gainful activity on the farms was work as Other gainful activities are
more common on large holdings
It was
relatively more common for large farms to conduct some kind of other gainful
activity than for small farms to do so. About 57 % of holdings with more than
100 hectares of arable land, conducted some form of other gainful activity,
while only 33 % of holdings with less than 2 hectares. One quarter of holdings
