Almost half of the agricultural land has tile drainage

Nearly 80 percent of the arable land in Sweden has a satisfactory drainage according to a survey performed by the Swedish Board of agriculture. 49 percent of the land has tile drainage according to the same survey. The share of land with tile drainage is almost twice as extensive in 2013 compared to 1927 when the first estimation in Sweden was made. That year 25 percent of the arable land had tile drainage.

The need for drainage works exceeds planned drainage works

14 percent of the arable land is in need of new tile drainage and 15 percent of the land is in need of refurbished tile drainage according to the survey. But for the coming 5 years only 6 percent of the land is planned to have either new tile drainage or refurbished tile drainage.
