Increased slaughter of cattle and poultry in July

The quantity of milk delivered to dairies in July 2019 was 224 400 tonnes, of which 37 600 tonnes was organic milk. In comparison with July 2018, the total delivery of milk decreased by 2 %, while the delivery of organic milk decreased by 1 %.

During July there were 60 400 tonnes of consumption milk and 18 700 tonnes of acidified milk produced. There were also 8 000 tonnes of cream, 6 700 tonnes of cheese, 1 700 tonnes of butter and 6 800 tonnes of milk powder produced during the month. The production of cheese included 170 tonnes of organic cheese.

In July there were 32 800 cattle slaughtered. The total slaughter weight of cattle was 10 800 tonnes, which was an increase by 6 % compared with the statistics for July 2018.

233 800 pigs were slaughtered in July 2019. Compared with July 2018 the total slaughter weight of pigs decreased by 2 %, to 21 400 tonnes.

The slaughter of sheep and lambs decreased by 12 % compared with the figures for July 2018. There were 18 000 sheep and lambs slaughtered during the month and the total slaughter weight of sheep and lambs was 370 tonnes.

In July the total slaughter weight of poultry was 14 100 tonnes. That is an increase by 15 % compared with the statistics for July 2018. Almost 96 % of the slaughter of poultry consisted of chicken. In comparison with July 2018, the slaughter of chicken increased by 19 %.

This month’s figures for eggs delivered to wholesalers were not available at the time of publication. The statistics will be published in the Statistical database of the Board of Agriculture when available.
