The slaughter of sheep and lambs decreased considerably in March

The quantity of milk delivered to dairies in March 2019 was 240 600 tonnes, of which 42 400 tonnes was organic milk. Compared with March 2018, the total delivery of milk decreased by 1 %, while the delivery of organic milk increased by 1 %.

There were 62 400 tonnes of drinking milk and 18 700 tonnes of acidified milk produced. Organic products accounted for 12 000 tonnes of the produced drinking milk and 2 000 tonnes of the produced acidified milk.

At the dairies there were also 8 200 tonnes of cream, 7 200 tonnes of cheese, 1 300 tonnes of butter and 4 800 tonnes of milk powder produced. The production of cream includes 410 tonnes of organic cream while the production of cheese includes 120 tonnes of organic cheese.

The slaughter of cattle in March 2019 increased by 8 % compared with the same month last year. During the month 37 900 cattle were slaughtered and the total slaughter weight of cattle was 12 200 tonnes.

There were 219 100 pigs slaughtered in March. The total slaughter weight of pigs was 21 000 tonnes, an increase by 1 % compared with the statistics for March 2018.

12 500 sheep and lambs were slaughtered in March. The total slaughter weight of sheep and lambs, 260 tonnes, decreased by 34 % in comparison with the same month last year.

In March the total slaughter weight of poultry was 13 500 tonnes. Compared with the figures for March 2018 the slaughter of poultry increased by 4 %. The slaughter of chicken accounted for 94 % of slaughtered poultry and increased by 3 % compared with March 2018.

10 500 tonnes of egg were delivered in March by the members of the Swedish Egg & Poultry Association. This is an increase by 3 % compared with March 2018.
