The slaughter of pigs increased in November 2017

In November 219 300 tonnes of milk were delivered to diaries, an amount in level with the values of November 2016. During November 65 500 tonnes of drinking milk were produced. In addition, the production of cream was 9 200 tonnes, of cheese 6 700 tonnes and of butter 1 100 tonnes.

During November 39 800 cattle were slaughtered, of which 1 500 were calves. The total slaughter weight during that month were 12 700 tonnes. Compared with November 2016 the slaughter weights are at approximately the same level.

This month 225 000 pigs were slaughtered, with a total slaughter weight of 20 800 tonnes. This is an increase compared with both November 2016 and 2015 with 2 and 5 % respectively.

32 400 sheep and lambs were slaughtered in November with a slaughter weight of 620 tonnes. This gives a 4 % decrease compared with the values of November 2016.

The amount of slaughtered poultry in November 2017 was 13 100 tonnes. It is a decrease by 4 % compared with November 2017. The slaughter of chicken constitutes about 95 % of slaughter of poultry and decreased by 4 %.

Egg delivery statistics for November are not yet finished. When they are available, they will be published in the Board of Agriculture Statistics Database.
