The total area of arable
land increases while the area of cereals decreases
The total
area of arable land in Sweden has been estimated to 2,643,400 ha in 2009. This
is an increase by 11,900 ha (+0.5 %) compared to the year 2008. The area of
cereals has been estimated to 1,048,600 ha in 2009, which is a decrease by
39,100 ha (-3.6 %) since the year 2008. Autumn wheat, rye, autumn barley,
triticale and mixed grain increased their areas while other cereals decreased
their areas. The highest percentage increase in area between the years 2008 and
2009 is autumn barley with 75.8 %. Rye increased with 32.8 %. The total
area of pasture and green fodder has been estimated to 1,175,300 ha, which
is an increase by 16,400 ha (+1.4 %) since the year 2008. Since the year 2005,
the area of pasture and green fodder has increased by 109,400 ha
(+10.3 %). The area of
rape and turnip rape increased by 10,000 ha (+11.2 %) between the years 2008
and 2009. The area of
fallow land increased by 6,800 ha (+4,6 %) between the years 2008 and 2009. This
is the first time for many years that the fallow land has increased. The area of pasture and
meadows decreases
The total
area of pasture and meadows has been estimated to 436,300 hectares in the year
2009. This is a decrease with 21,400 ha (-4.7 %) between the years 2008 and
2009. Pasture and meadows consists of grazed alvar, forest pasture, mountain
pasture and mown meadow. The number of holdings
decreases
The number
of holdings which are included in the Swedish farm register in the year 2009
has been estimated to 71,196, which is 415 fewer than in the year of 2008. This
is equivalent to a decrease by 1 %. List of tables
