The area of cereals
increased while the area of rape seed decreased in 2003.
The
total area of arable land is estimated to 2 668 600 hectares in
2003. That is a decrease of 11 300 hectares compared with 2002.
The
area with cereals is estimated to 1 153 900 hectares, an increase
with 2,2 % compared with the year before. It is mainly the area of wheat
that has increased while the areas of barley and oats have decreased. The
area of cereals is now 43 % of total arable land.
The
area of oilseeds is estimated to 58 600 hectares for 2003, which is a
decrease of 13 % compared with 2003. Compared with 2001 the area of
oilseeds has increased with 31 %. The area of oilseeds is now on the same
level as for the years 1996 and 1997.
Temporary
grasses and green fodder is estimated to 905 000 hectares, a decrease
of 1 % compared with 2002. The area is around 36 % of total arable
land.
Pasture and meadow is
estimated to 494 400 hectare.
The
total area of pasture and meadow is estimated to 494 400 hectares in
2003. The natural pasture and meadow is estimated to 420 000 hectares,
around 85 % of all pasture and meadows.
The number of holdings
is still decreasing
The
number of agricultural holdings with more than 2,0 hectares of arable land
is for 2003 estimated to 66 780, a decrease by 4 170 holdings
compared with 2002. It is mainly the number of holdings not applying for
EU-subsidies that has decreased. This number has decreased with 3 354
to 5 295. The number of holdings applying for EU-subsidies has decreased
with 916 to 61 485.
