In this
report data on the use of arable land for 2002 is presented. The figures are
mainly based on data from the Swedish administrative system for agricultural
subsidies, containing data for farmers who have applied for agricultural
subsidies. It is also based on information collected by a simplified mail
inquiry to all holders (including those who have not applied for financial
support) during 2000. In 2002 the figures for some holdings who did not supply
for subsidies were updated. The results of this update was a decrease of around
1 600 holdings and 15 000 hectares.
The figures
in this report refer to holdings with more than 2,0 hectares of arable land. In
2002 the number of holdings amounted to 70 900 and the total arable land to 2
680 000 hectares. The area used for wheat was 340 000 hectares or 13 % of
the total arable land. The corresponding figures for barley and oats were 712
000 hectares or 27 %. 973 000 hectares or 36 % of the area were used
for temporary grass and green fodder.
