Official approval of sawmills

Swedish sawmill companies can be authorised to use the official mark for KD 56 ºC/30 min or HT, provided their kilns are approved.

More details can be found under the heading The Swedish wood packaging programme in the left-hand column.

Heat treatment during kiln drying

The approval procedure guarantees that the wood has been kiln dried in accordance with a specific time-temperature schedule that achieves a minimum wood core temperature of 56 ºC for a minimum of 30 minutes. This heat treatment makes the wood comply with the quarantine requirements for export of wood to certain countries. In addition it also fulfils the requirements in the international standard for wood packaging material, ISPM 15.

Please note that sawn wood for direct use as wood packaging in international trade, e.g. dunnage, should be marked as wood packaging. You can find more information in the Swedish Wood Packaging Programme in right-hand column.

We recommend you to buy treated wood

The approval of sawmills and the marking of wood are voluntary procedures.

Before you enter into an agreement to buy wood for the production of wood packaging material, we recommend you to make sure that the wood will be correctly marked. In addition, the invoice or delivery note should contain a reference to the treatment and the official registration number of the supplier.
