Products available from intervention stocks

The Commission can intervene in certain agricultural markets if supply exceeds demand. In Sweden, the Board of Agriculture is the authority that handles the actual transactions - buying and storing the surplus quantities.

Products that can be subject to intervention

In Sweden, the following products can be subject to intervention: barley, wheat, rye, skimmed milk powder, beef, butter and sugar. Products must fulfil certain quality criteria in order to be eligible.

The products purchased by the intervention agency will later be sold, either within the EU or to a non-member country.
